Volunteer with VITA – United is the Way to Strengthen Our Community!
Help families access free, IRS-certified tax preparation and put money back into the hands of our neighbors. Last year, volunteers helped return over $1 million to Wapello County families through United Way’s VITA program—and we are growing!
We have volunteer roles available at all three VITA sites:
Ottumwa (main location), Fairfield, and Albia.
Volunteer Roles Include:
• Tax Preparers – Prepare returns using IRS software (training provided).
• Client Intake Support – Welcome clients and assist with check-in and paperwork.
• Clerical Support – Scan, shred, file, and organize documents behind the scenes.
• Translator/Interpreter Volunteers – Bridge language gaps during appointments.
• Scheduling/Admin Support – Help with phones, scheduling, and reminders.
No experience needed—training, support, and IRS ethics certification provided at no cost. Flexible scheduling Monday–Thursday.
Your time will directly improve financial stability for families across Wapello County and beyond.
