Do you want to help improve your community? Join the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program through United Way of Wapello County and help increase financial stability for low- and middle-income households. Our free tax preparation and filing services ensure that families receive all the credits and deductions they’re entitled to.
We’re looking for volunteers for a variety of roles, including:
Preparing tax returns
Assisting with client intakes
Translating for clients
Scheduling appointments
Answering phone calls
Supporting office tasks like scanning and shredding documents
What You Need to Know:
Free Training Provided: All VITA volunteers complete ethics training, and those helping prepare taxes will receive additional IRS certification training at no cost.
Support and Guidance: Experienced staff are always on-site to assist with questions or challenges.
Impact Last Year: In 2024, we helped 725 households access free tax services, resulting in over $825,000 in refunds to families in Wapello County. We aim to expand our services in 2025, but we can’t do it without you!
