Description

In Iowa, 22% of working families did not earn enough to meet basic needs. You can help struggling families increase their financial stability, and help return federal dollars to our local economy. Volunteer for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program with United Way of Wapello County.

VITA provides free income tax return preparation to low- and moderate-income individuals and families.

We need two types of volunteers for our VITA program to be successful: greeters and tax preparers.

As a greeter, you will welcome clients, check them in, and coordinate with the tax preparation volunteers when they are ready for the client.

As a tax preparation volunteer, you will file free, basic tax returns for VITA clients, maximizing benefits to our clients and to our community.

VITA volunteers receive certification using IRS training materials. Certification is free and can be completed from home on your own schedule. We also provide in-person training sessions and one-on-one support.

Volunteers can serve on week days, evenings and weekends.

No tax preparation experience necessary. We will provide training materials.
